  • Overview

    The Millwork Estimator provides estimates for a variety of products that are designed and manufactured by the cabinet shop. This role ensures that pricing estimates are accurate and meet the requirements of the internal or external customer. The Millwork Estimator collaborates with an extended network of vendors and possesses an attention to detail to ensure that bids meet the company requirements for quality of work at the best price possible. Products have varied specifications and include interior finishes, flatwork panels, casework/millwork, doors/frames/and hardware, specialties, decorative metals, lab casework and equipment. Collaborates with many vendors and dig into the details to get low on bid day.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for ensuring that all quantity estimates and materials pricing are accurate and complete.  
    • Provides support for the development of bidding strategies by debriefing the Capitol Millworks Sales Manager of job elements. 
    • Compiles list of type of materials or equipment requirements, utilizing knowledge of services to be performed, or type of structure to be built using blueprints and specifications. 
    • Investigates all aspects of a project independently to generate formal estimates and bids. 
    • Computes cost estimates for materials, purchased equipment, subcontracted work, production activities and requirements, and labor. 
    • Develops efficient schedule for all aspects of estimating from start to finish and ensures that deadlines are met on deliverables.  
    • May perform other tasks as required or directed. 

    Qualifications

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

    High School Diploma or equivalent and at least two years estimating in the construction, cabinetry or millwork industry 

     

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: 

    Knowledge of terminology and standard processes and procedures on cabinetry work. 

    Basic knowledge of ADA, OSHA, Food Safety regulations related to cabinet design and finishes.  

     

    SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

    • Innovative/Critical thinker with strong organizational and time management skills, multitasking skills. 
    • Analytical and problem-solving skills 
    • Solid written and verbal communication skills and collaboration with internal and external customers 
    • A sense of urgency and flexibility to respond to changing demands/priorities.  
    • Proficient in MS Office Applications such as Word and Excel.  Ability to learn company estimating software. 
    • Demonstrates an open-mind and willingness to learn new things and work with different processes and procedures in a continuous improvement environment.  
    • Demonstrates strong scheduling skills and consistently able to meet deadlines.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Employees may occasionally experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:

    WORK ENVIRONMENT 

    Work is performed in an office setting, in retail locations and cabinet shop environment. Occasional travel to outside locations or meetings. Ability to work extended hours, as required, in support of the company’s business needs.
