  • Overview

    The Systems Engineer II provides engineering support to build out, maintain, and troubleshoot the Raley’s expanding infrastructure. This role works independently and applies sound judgement and professional knowledge to providing the design, programming, and maintenance of computer systems software. The Systems Engineer II applies their technical competency to deliver mission critical infrastructure and ensures the highest levels of availability, performance and security. This role requires a strong background in IT, computer systems engineering, or systems engineering and analysis.


    1. Analyzes current systems software proposed modifications and new software for impact or installation problems with current production systems and/or standards and procedures.
    2. Selects new software or modifications that will enhance operating and development activation.
    3. Maintains sample set of installation programs that are used to test effects of new or modified software.
    4. Tests new or modified software using sample set and analyzes results.
    5. Prepares instructional material for application designers and programmer analysts and operation that describes effects and new requirements resulting from changes to systems software.
    6. Designs, codes and tests special software required by the installation.
    7. Identifies and documents standards for use and operation of systems software.
    8. Monitors machine resource usage, particularly with response time and makes the necessary corrections for improved processing, while notifying user and information services management.
    9. Analyzes and performs systems tuning, capacity planning and utilization tracking on a regular basis with reports to management.
    10. Analyzes production and/or testing problems to determine whether they are caused by systems software malfunctions and makes corrections where required.
    11. Fulfills administrative reporting requirements.




    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field plus two to five (2-5) years of related experience in data center operations and one (1+) year of progressive experience as a Systems Engineer I or an equivalent combination of education and experience.



    • Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of systems engineering/programming.
    • Adapts procedures, processes, tools, equipment and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of the position.Intermediate knowledge of operating systems and system architecture including: Linux and Windows.

    • Manage and Monitor Systems and Infrastructure (Solarwinds / SCOM).
    • Experience with virtualization (VMware)
    • System Center (SCOM, SCORCH, SCCM, SCSM, SCEP, WSUS)
    • Office365 (Skype for Business, SharePoint)
    • Ability to work closely with project managers, operations supervisor and other systems engineers regarding software requirements.
    • Ability to coordinate with other systems engineers regarding software requirements.
    • Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge about systems software supplied by the vendors and/or manufacturer.
    • Must demonstrate self-initiative, a sense of urgency and innovation/creativity.
    • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
