Under the indirect supervision of the Produce Manager, the Produce Clerk is responsible for the freshness of product in the produce department through continuous rotation of the products, for creating visually appealing displays of product and for ultimate customer service.
The Produce Clerk position requires constant physical activity and full body mobility. Although each Produce Clerk performs all of the job tasks described below, it is typical that each shift will be primarily responsible for a particular activity.
These activities include restocking and rotating the "wet" racks (fresh produce); filling the "holes" in the display cases (adding product as necessary) and breaking down the load (this depends on what time the load arrives); restocking the "dry" racks and doing back room clean up. Produce Clerk is described as one of the more physically demanding positions at Raley's. The Produce Clerk must be physically present at job site to perform job tasks.
Education: There are no specific education requirements although employees must be 18 years of age.
Prior experience or special skills: Produce Clerks are typically promoted to this position from other positions in the store. This is a "hands-on" position requiring good eye-hand coordination and the ability to create visually attractive merchandise displays.
Certifications/ licenses: Must complete a Raley's 4-hour sanitation certification course and 1 to 2 hour video safety training. Additional hands-on safety and equipment operation training is also provided.
